Ayurveda means “Science of Life “and comprises a vast source of information about healthy living and treating disease. It covers the area of medicine that range from psychology to surgery and pediatrics to geriatrics. Originally passed on through word of mouth, Ayurvedic knowledge was eventually written down in ancient Indian language, Sanskrit.
The knowledge we have now is by three surviving texts of Charaka, Sushruta and Vaghbata. Charaka (1st century A.D.) wrote Charaka Samhita (samhita- meaning collection of verses written in Sanskrit). Sushruta (4th century A.D.) wrote his Samhita i.e Sushruta Samhita. Vaghbata (5th century A.D.) compiled the third set of major texts called Ashtanga Hridaya and Ashtanga Sangraha. Charaka’s School of Physicians and Sushruta’s School of Surgeons became the basis of Ayurveda and helped organize and systematically classify into branches
of medicine and surgery

Homeopathy is a system of alternative medicine based on the idea that “like cures like.” In other words, a substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can cure similar symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy uses highly diluted substances, often in the form of tablets or liquids, to treat various health conditions.
Allopathy, also known as modern medicine or conventional medicine, is a system of medicine that uses drugs and surgery to treat diseases. Allopathic medicines are designed to target specific symptoms and eliminate them. Allopathy also uses a range of diagnostic tools, such as blood tests and imaging tests, to diagnose diseases.
Ayurveda is a system of medicine that originated in India thousands of years ago. It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. Ayurveda uses natural remedies, such as herbs and minerals, to treat diseases and promote overall health.
“You are what you eat” is a saying that you have probably heard before. But as per Principles of Ayurveda, “You are what you digest.”
The Ayurvedic diet is one that not only nourishes the body but also restores the balance of ‘Tridoshas’ which is very much essential for maintaining Health. Depending on our dosha, or constitutional type, some foods can be beneficial, and others should be avoided. These same foods may have the opposite effect on another dosha.
Ayurveda gives more importance to diet than medicine. One must take the diet according to his Agni (Digestive power), Desh (Geographic place), Kaal (Season), Kriya (Occupation), Vaya (Age), etc. One, who follows this, enjoys a healthy & disease-free lifespan.

Ritucharya or seasonal regimens are considered as one of the foundations for maintaining Good health. It has long been recognized that our individual constitutions or body-types are affected by changes in nature throughout the yearly cycle. Most of us have experienced how a cold, overcast day affects us differently to a warm sunny day or how unsettling several days of cold gusty winds can be to our nervous systems.
Ayurveda is not only a system of medicine in the conventional sense of curing a disease. It is also a way of life that teaches us how to maintain and protect health. It shows us both how to cure disease and how to promote longevity. Ayurveda treats man as a “whole” – which is a combination of body, mind and soul. Therefore, it is a truly holistic and integral medical system.
The treatment in Ayurveda can be classified broadly into two methods-
1. Shamana Chikitsa (Alleviating Therapy)
2. Sodhana Chikitsa (Purification Therapy)
